Redmire for Sale
Redmire Pool in Herefordshire is the home of UK carp fishing, and its most famous water is to be sold by the owners, the Richardson family. This historic venue sprang to fame in the 1950s, when Richard Walker broke the carp record with a 44lb common which became known as Clarissa. Along with the lake, a large house, buildings, and 100 acres of land that surrounds the pool are up for grabs, and will be placed on the market in a few months.
Redmire has had a colourful history, and has seen many of the carp world’s heroes tread its banks. The likes of Chris Yates, who banked a record-breaking 51lb 8oz mirror in 1980, Rod Hutchinson, Pete Springate, Kevin Maddocks, Jack Hilton, and many more, have all fished the 3-acre pool.
Editor Steve Broad said, “I grew up reading tales of Redmire, and my first visit to the venue saw me step back in time, and dream of those early days when the carp world was new and unknown. We should never forget that we have a huge debt of gratitude to those early pioneers who helped lay the foundations for the current carp scene. I really do hope that with the help of the new owners, we can preserve Redmire and save it for future generations.”
