10 Different Species for Chris

A recent return visit to Gilhams in Thailand by regualr reader Chris Quinn resulted in him catching 10 different species including 3 different species of carp. Two of these were targets he had set himself for the trip, a 100lb plus Siamese carp which was beaten twice with the bigger fish being 120lb (WEIGHED!) on the last day and the other target was a 20lb+ Julian’s carp which was achieved early in the trip with a fish of 40lb.

The other carp was a rare black shark carp caught on light (by Gillhams’ standards) float tackle and was the only fish of the day but who cares when they look like this. Arapaima, double-figure gourami and Amazon redtail catfish to 65lb were caught in the first half of the trip and then a switch to the carp for the second half proved successful. Small white or yellow pop- ups over a bag of pellets proved to be the most successful baits for the Siamese carp while careful pre-baiting over a number of days proved the downfall of the other carp species. Stunning fish from a stunning lake with a very friendly atmosphere.
