Success with Gold for Carp Team England

In-form Carp Team England secured another victory at the ICFA Home Nations International. England took the win at new Celtic Lakes near Lampeter, in Wales. Scotland took silver, and Wales the bronze. The win was made even more significant as the England line-up was completely different to the medal-winning squad that competed at the World Championships in Serbia just a fortnight beforehand.

Manager Rob Hughes announced that “Celtic Lakes offered a completely different challenge to the World Champs, so I decided upon a complete change of personnel for this event. The fishing is quite specific and once I had considered tactics, I knew exactly who could do the job. The two-times British Champions, Mark Bartlett and Kev Hewitt, were recalled, but the other six lads were all England debutantes. They all rose to the occasion perfectly and fished brilliantly as the score sheet will confirm”.

Fished to FIPSEd international rules, the team event is decided on points as opposed to total weight. It was a close finish, as although England had a massive weight advantage, they were only one point ahead of Scotland. England won three of their sections, giving them just seven points in total. Scotland ran England very close, with eight points and Wales took bronze with 13.

This event was the final international fixture in the match calendar and caps what has been an incredible year for Carp Team England, who have secured international wins in the Anglo/Welsh, the European Tri-Nations, the Home Nations and a double bronze medal performance in the World Championships.

The line up consisted of: Mark Bartlett/Kev Hewitt, Lee Simms/Sean Dulson, Jack Meyer/Lewis Swift, Kev Grout/Luke Church and Rob Hughes (manager).

England’s next event will be The World Games in South Africa, February 2019.
