30 Years for DT Baits

It doesn’t appear to be just us looking back to 1988 with fond memories. The date is also a landmark for respected Essex rollers, DT Baits, who are themselves celebrating a 30th anniversary this year. Quite an achievement in this day, age and industry. Well done chaps, here’s to the next one!

DT Baits owner, Tom McGregor, remembers that “Back in 1987, Dave Thorpe was a renowned angler in the formative years of carp fishing, who held the Dutch carp record, and was known for his bait making skills.

This hobby turned in to a business when he launched DT Bait Developments a little while later, providing a number of base mixes for anglers to roll their own bait.

DT quickly marked itself out as a bait which used human-grade ingredients and by sourcing the highest grade pure flavours – something it still guards preciously today. These features, allied to Dave’s formulation skills led the brand to become known for being a high quality, big carp catcher.

In 1992, a pillar of the company, Neil Messenger, met Dave, and was introduced to Cold Water Green Beast. He maintains to this day that it was this bait in particular that pulled him into DT and has kept him here ever since! Neil, Dave and Chris took the company forward and into the age of boilie rolling. Again DT developed a reputation for perfection using a three roller as opposed to a two roller former – and always built on the founding principles of excellence, nutrition and precision.

Further innovation maintained its place in the market – washed out pop-ups were pioneered by DT, along with iconic DNA feeding stimulants, boosted hookbaits and more.

I took over the reins in 2016 after working in the company for two years. Now Neil and myself lead the expanded team in producing the finest bait for those anglers across Europe who appreciate the power of great bait”.
