The Royale name in the Fox range has been synonymous with great value for a number of years now, and thankfully, the new Royale Euro Dome is no different. Fox have basically created the perfect bivvy for the holidaying angler, or simply the guy who likes more creature comforts when on the bank at home. It has been based on the original Royale Classic One-man, but with two very big differences. First of all, it’s bigger, and secondly, it comes with a very clever removable inner dome. This inner dome can be left attached if so required, and serves a number of functions, including reducing condensation; the groundsheets have to be removed to take the bivvy down with the inner in place. The footprint of the shelter has been made slightly larger than the Classic One-man to allow for the footprint of the inner dome to be approximately the same size. The outer shell is made from hard-wearing, breathable polyester fabric with 2000mm hydrostatic head rating.

The Royale is supplied with a heavy-duty groundsheet, and comes with a lightweight zip-in groundsheet for the inner dome. This is brilliant for keeping out creepy-crawlies at home or abroad. There are mozzie mesh panels on the front, rear and door panels to aid with airflow, which helps keep the bivvy well ventilated and cool when the weather is scorching. The front panel can also be rolled back to create an open front, which allows you to watch the water if the weather is good. The outer shell can also be adjusted, thanks to the frame tension straps, which is a real bonus. The Royale is supplied with clear PVC solid and mozzie mesh panels that all feature double zips. There are also rod straps positioned either side of the front door, and heavy-duty pegs. This bivvy is so priced that it could easily serve as a main shelter, or can be used when spending several days on the bank at home or abroad. This is a great bit of kit with loads of features that you wouldn’t expect from a bivvy of this price, and it’s well worth a closer a look if you are in the market for a new bankside home.
