John Wilson MBE passes away

It’s not been a good year at all for angling, with a number of well-known anglers leaving us and, shortly after we went to press with last month’s issue, we received the terrible news that John had also died, following a stroke at his home in Thailand. Described as an icon, legend and star of the sport, John was responsible for more than 20 books on the subject, as well as his long-running Go Fishing series on ITV that was on our screens from the mid-80s until 2002. He was appointed an MBE for his services to angling in 2009 and shortly afterwards, in 2011, he became the only Englishman to be inducted into IGFA’s Hall of Fame. His impact on fishing was said to have been immeasurable and he was voted as the greatest-ever angler in 2004! John is survived by his wife, Jo, a son and a daughter.
